Located at the corner of Front St W & Spadina Ave, the “Toronto Photo Archives” was a platform to explore the issues of comprehensive building design while addressing the multivalent and evolving nature of this building typology. My design lines up conceptual parallels to a Greek temple to facilitate archival spaces and also serve the public realm. The architectural program consists of three main bodies. The outer layer is a concrete envelope that houses offices, utility spaces, and the mainframe steel structure. The rest of the program is divided into two symmetrically aligned realms: public and private. The public part is a semi-open auditorium, while the archive space is a solid black box; Nested deep inside the envelope and is a place for contemplation and research
