In January 2018 the National Bank of Canada launched an architectural competition to design its new head office in Montreal. Gathering 7,000 employees in one location, The new tower will be a 46-storey building (200m) with a gross floor area of 102,000 m2; a rental space equivalent to Place Ville-Marie located at the corner of Boulevard Robert-Bourassa and Notre-Dame St W, In this project I investigated the significance of Aluminium in shaping the image of contemporary high rise buildings. The goal was to find a moment in which the materiality of aluminium can be exhibited through the development of a singular facade system. My design has rendered the materiality of aluminium into an array of treads that constitute a fabric as a whole. The system is a flexible envelope that is able to clad the entire volume of the high-rise structure.
