FRAGMENTED SPACE _ EPILOGUE

BACHELOR OF ARCHITECTURE THESIS

2010

The district of  Grand Bazaar of Tehran is a gigantic complex of different historical, political, and social interactions which have been shaped over hundreds of years of chaotic development. An atmosphere of constant evolution leads the city’s spatial evolution towards an increasing entropy. This amorphous system is constantly changing in various aspects. Yet it is resilient to take new patterns of development, and it seems that the city unconsciously repeats a series of similar patterns. As if the space re-generates the fragments of its history.
Within the proximity of the entrance of the King's Mosque, this program envisions 70,000 sqf of exhibition space. The front plaza is designed to function with the adjacent entrance gate of the King's Mosque, to both amplify social interaction and alter the cognitive conciseness of the spectator about the nature of the historic fabric of the city.
